KIMP

GIWA Chain

GIWA is an OP Stack Ethereum L2 built by Dunamu with the Optimism Foundation. This page covers the facts KIMP relies on.

KIMP is deployed natively on GIWA. This page summarizes the properties of the chain that matter to the protocol. For authoritative and current information, refer to giwa.io and the official documentation at docs.giwa.io.

What GIWA is#

GIWA is an Ethereum layer 2 built on the OP Stack. It is developed by Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, together with the Optimism Foundation. GIWA is the first self-managed OP Enterprise chain, and it is headed for the Superchain.

Because GIWA is an OP Stack chain, it inherits Ethereum tooling. Solidity contracts, standard wallets, viem, ethers and Foundry are expected to work as on other OP Stack chains.

Blocks and Flashblocks#

GIWA produces a block every second. On top of that, Flashblocks provide preconfirmations in roughly 200 ms.

Flashblocks do not make blocks faster. They give an earlier view of transaction status before the full block is sealed. A Flashblocks-aware RPC exposes this view through the pending block tag.

KIMP uses preconfirmations for display and user feedback only. Entry and mark prices always reference the latest finalized on-chain index value. See Flashblocks usage.

Gas#

Gas on GIWA is paid in ETH. GIWA has not announced a chain token. The $KIMP token is never used for gas.

Dojang#

Dojang is GIWA's attestation service, built on the Ethereum Attestation Service (EAS). Attestations are issued by Upbit Korea. The attestation types are:

  • Verified Address
  • Balance Root
  • Verified Balance
  • Verified Code

KIMP reads only the Verified Address attestation, through DojangScroll.isVerified, to gate the Verified Lane. KIMP receives a boolean result. It never receives personal or KYC data.

up.id#

up.id provides free, non-transferable ENS subdomain names of the form username.up.id for Verified Addresses. Names are soulbound and are revoked if the Verified Address becomes invalid. KIMP resolves up.id names for the opt-in Verified Lane leaderboard.

Planned by GIWA#

GIWA has described several components that are planned but not yet available. KIMP intends to integrate them once they exist:

Planned componentRelevance to KIMP
GIWA WalletA native wallet option for traders and LPs
KRW stablecoinAccepted as collateral as soon as it exists
PaymasterGas paid in stablecoin for users without ETH
Upbit data oracleBecomes the primary source for the Upbit KRW price

None of these components are controlled by KIMP. Their timing and design are determined by GIWA.

Why this matters for KIMP#

The kimchi premium is a Korean market signal. GIWA is the chain built by the operator of the exchange that defines it. Deploying on GIWA gives KIMP access to Korean identity attestations, a future KRW stablecoin and a future first-party Upbit data oracle. See Why GIWA for the full rationale.
